Create custom menus by adding custom links, pages, categories, tags, post formats, or posts. Drag and drop menu items to create submenus. Choose the menus to be used in your theme via the “Theme Locations” box.
Widgets
The Baylys theme offers three main widget areas: Left Sidebar, Right Sidebar, and Footer Widget Area. In addition to the standard WordPress widgets, you can use custom Baylys widgets:
- Baylys Social Links Widget: Link to your social profiles with nice-looking social icons.
- Baylys Flickr Widget: Include a preview of your latest or random Flickr images.
- Baylys Featured Video Widget: Show a YouTube or Vimeo video in your sidebar or footer.
- Baylys About Widget: Tell your readers more about you and include a profile picture.
Post Formats
The Baylys theme supports all WordPress post formats. You can choose a post format while writing or editing your posts. Some examples of post formats are:
- Quote: Use the blockquote tag to create a quote with or without the quote author.
- Video: Post a video by pasting the embed iframe code from YouTube or Vimeo.
- Link: Include a link in your post with a CSS class of “link”.
- Gallery: Create a gallery using the WordPress media uploader.
- Image: Include an image in your post using the “Upload/Insert” media uploader.

- Chat: Style a chat post content using ul and li tags with the class of “chat”.
Page Templates
The Baylys theme offers custom page templates that can be selected in the “Page Attributes / Template” section. The available templates are No Sidebar, Full Width, and Portfolio. The Full Width template is great for including multicolumn shortcodes. The Portfolio template allows you to create a page showing a preview of all posts in the portfolio category.
Author Box on Single Posts
You can show an author description text at the end of each standard post by filling out the “Biographical Info” in the WordPress user profile. You can also insert links or other HTML.
Shortcodes
Baylys offers shortcodes for multicolumn content, info boxes, and buttons. You can find all shortcode codes ready to copy and paste on the Shortcode example page at the Baylys live demo.
Theme Translations
Baylys is ready for theme translations. You can add your own translation or customize an existing translation easily using the WordPress plugin Codestyling Localization.
Child Theme for Customizations
If you want to customize the Baylys theme further, it is recommended to create a child theme. This will prevent your changes from being overwritten by future updates of the Baylys parent theme. You can find more information on creating a child theme in the article “WordPress Child Theme Basics” on the Themeshaper blog. A sample child theme folder is available for download on the Baylys theme page.
